How can someone tell if they are obese? – If they weigh 20% or more than the average healthy weight for their height. There are a number of online tools that allow you to assess your weight and what that means for your Body Mass Index or BMI.
There are some persons who will have more risks if they become obese and these are people who have high cholesterol or high blood pressure prior to becoming obese. Cholesterol in too large amount can lead to coronary heart disease in anyone but those who are obese and found to have high cholesterol are at an increased risk of getting coronary heart disease. This also increases one’s risk of heart attack and stroke.
Those with high blood sugar and pressure are also more at risk for diseases when they are overweight or obese. And those who do not have these conditions prior to becoming obese will suffer from them for as long as they keep on the weight.
Obese persons who have the majority of their weight around the area of their midsection are also at more risk than other obese persons for disease such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. This doesn’t mean however those persons who are pear shaped in their fat deposits aren’t at dangerous risk for these diseases as well.
If you are obese it may seem like you have a long way to go to start reaping the benefits that you can get through exercise and a healthy diet. If you think so you are wrong as a simple weight loss of ten or twenty pounds can decrease your risk for these diseases dramatically.
You can in just one step reduce or get rid of your high blood pressure and cholesterol with that weight loss alone. Just think what more weight loss could do for you – keep you around longer to spend time with your loved ones!
Start the journey to a new you today. It could be as simple as walking around the block in the evenings, then moving it up once you realize that you can do it. You could then move to jogging or walking two blocks then upping it to jogging. Then get a personal trainer and get more of that fat off. Start eating better as well; drinking water, eating whole foods and a lot of fruits and vegetables and you will be on your way in no time.

This is very sound advice but the assumption than many people make is that they believe that they are their bodies. For me the body is a vehicle that allows us to express ourselves and interact with a the physical world. There is very much more to us than just the physical side and the conditions you talk about here could also be seen as reflections of the inner emotional and spiritual aspects manifesting in physical form. I therefore believe that to deal with physical conditions we need to address the underlying emotional and spiritual root causes. Thanks for a great read and keep up the good work.
