The Airedale terrier is originally from Airedale (Yorkshire) in England. The breed is traditionally called "King of Terriers" because it is the largest breed of terriers.

Airedale terrier dogs were originally bred to hunt otters in the valleys of the River Aire and have also been used as police dogs.

It is a fantastic pet dog as well, here are 5 tips for training and keeping it well-behaved.

Tip #1:
You cannot teach an old dog, and this is true with this breed as well.Airedale terrier dogs has to be trained and the training must start as early as possible because the sooner you teach a trick the faster it will learn it.However, this does not just apply to funny tricks, it applies to general behavior as well.

When your dog is still a puppy, you need to begin the training. When you do this, the training you give will automatically be ingrained in the dogs brain and it will start behaving as you have shown. It is like proper behavior becomes instinctive after a lot of practicing and repetition.

Tip #2:
Use and teach, but do not abuse! There is a lot of dog training methods available that are made by experts. These methods work only if they are used properly. Some people use the leash to abuse their dogs, but this will only hurt the dog and there will be no results from doing this.

Each training method is effective only when the dog enjoys it and it does not harm it in any way.Your job is to be firm but gentle with your Airedale terrier dog when you are training it.Use various training techniques that will encourage your dog to behave well instead of scaring it and behaving bad.

Tip #3:
Before you take your Airedale terrier outside, observe how it behaves inside. This will give you a quite accurate clue of how the dog will act outside.Lots of people say that the dog“s behavior is different inside the house than it is outside, but this is not the case.By observing closely how the dog behaves inside, you will know how it will respond to you outside when you are taking a walk or playing.

If your dog does not listen to you inside the house, it is not likely it will listen to you outside the house where there are so many interesting smells and other things interesting to a dog.

Tip #4:
Do not get angry, try to keep your temper.Training Airedale terriers can be very frustrating, they will not learn the first time it will take dozens of repeats over and over again before it sinks in.Dogs respond to positive and negative actions really quick so by shouting at your dog you will not accomplish anything.

People often have a tendency of blaming someone else of their problems and what would be easier than blaming a helpless animal.Do not blame your dog, if you have a bad day just skip the dog training and do it tomorrow.

Tip #5:
Dogs go by instincts, they do not think rationally like people do.Therefore, timing is very important. You need to make corrections regarding your dog when the corrections are still relevant. If you want your dog to stop barking you need to correct the behavior while the dog still barks, not 5 minuted after.

If you correct your dog or praise it with the wrong timing, you will only confuse your dog.The best timing you can use to correct your Airedale terrier is to train it as a puppy so it will always be well-behaved.
