When I am well, I find it quite impossible to sleep for long periods of time. Comments that are probably way too long and make little sense are one symptom of being up a long time. Sometimes I am up for thirty hours or so before feeling as if I could sleep. Pain helps keep me awake, though.
One solution is that I lie in bed with my earphones on so as not to disturb my wife and listen to books, lectures or pretty well anything with a spoken voice. I strive for something that is good or interesting but not too good or too interesting as then I become too wakeful. Perhaps I'm trying to recreate university lectures in my mind since I did tend to want to nod off in lectures that were only of moderate interest.
Perhaps someone could read my comments or articles - I particularly recommend the ones on politics if you're not that way inclined - if they're really having trouble sleeping. It would produce a poetic kind of symmetry and my writing would stand as a good warning to sleep rather than write.
I always have to fight the urge to apologize for leaving rather long and rambling comments but think that writers don't have to publish them if they feel they are irritating beyond measure. I have come to regard comment-leaving is a rather sad affliction that I have to investigate further.
